That's why it doesn't often happen to people who break easily or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. There's this part where the Skin Horse tells the Rabbit what it means to be real. Originally, Clem, in bed with Joel, asks if he knows the book. Part of the scene remains but none of the reference to The Velveteen Rabbit. In case you don't know what that has to do with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, there was a monologue about the book.
